Testimony in song. LISTEN!

There’s a really churchy thing called ‘a testimony’. It’s when someone tells you what God has done for them. I know, I know, it’s an awkward, churchy word. But I do get it – you stand up in open court and you declare ‘this is what happened’.

A few weeks ago I was talking to Piers, my very musical and creative neighbour, about all the usual minor things of life, like spirituality and death… funerals and memories… all that stuff. I told him that I had found a song, a pop song I suppose, that put into words exactly what God has done for me recently. I said I wanted to play it to my pals on my 70th. I asked him if he’d play it for me, and he said ‘No’. So I asked him if he would record it for me, and he said ‘No.’

Yesterday, he sent me this. It’s my prayer. He relented. Maybe I wore him down. It’s not absolutely what I wanted to say but it’s as near as dammit. My first lines were;

Something in my soul
Makes me want to lose myself
Makes me want to lose myself
In your love

There’s something in your word
Makes my heart beat fast
Hope this feeling lasts
The rest of my life

I love it. I just love it. This is my testimony, my goslings, this, THIS, THIS is what God has done for me, brought me back to where I belong.
